Linda and Tracy have been accepted as Enterprise Advisors supporting Brimsham Green School to develop a whole school strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement.
“We are really enjoying getting involved and learning how we can best support this great local School.”
A Dragon’s Den style event was the first which we have organised for the school. This new careers based project with students, based on the BBC show Dragon’s Den. 21 Year 7 pupils took part in the programme and were invited to pitch their ideas to four business dragons.
The board consisted of: Karen Stallabrass, restaurateur and owner of The Stables at Vayre House, Brendan Byrne, landlord of The Lamb at Iron Acton, Paul Grimes, owner and manager of Wotton Farm Shop and café and Andy Wiseman, Operational Director of Hobbs House Bakery.
Luke Penberthy, Brimsham Green School’s Career Co-ordinator said: “The year 7 students were excited, and somewhat daunted, by the prospect of giving their presentations to real business people in such an appropriate venue.
“The purpose of the project was to develop a wide range of employability skills in the context of a real workplace”.
Another of the first initiatives to be launched is a series of Business Lunches. Our thinking is to connect ’real people’ with pupils to give them the opportunity to ask questions and learn from their experiences. Local Small Business owners with expertise in marketing, finance and business operation and planning met with Business Studies pupils from Key Stages 4 and 5. The lunch gave everyone opportunity to share stories and learn from each other.
Big thanks to James Rendell from Clever HR, Darren Clarke from BDA Dyslexia, Clare Jaggard from MyYate, and Nichola Walters from the Great British Corner Shop for giving your time and expertise. We really enjoyed it! We look forward to the days to come when we can work with the pupils and staff in person again.
